1st International Place Branding Conference
Visitor Services for Exhibitions
With 100 participants, 40 paper presentations, 4 keynote lectures, and 2 panels the conference addressed several issues surrounding place marketing and place branding conceptualisation and implementation, in an effort to contribute towards a more efficient practice and sounder theoretical base for this field of inquiry.

The intent was to promote dialogue among professionals from the academic, political and consultancy sectors about the relations between place marketing/place branding, urban/regional development, and their significance for contemporary places.

The case study of the new Berlin branding campaign was both a starting point and a constant theme throughout the conference. All participants agreed that there is an urgent necessity to develop place branding as a distinct field of research.

The conference was chaired by INPOLIS Managing Director Ares Kalandides.

A special issue of the Journal of Place Management and Development in 2009 was dedicated to the conference: Volume 2, Issue 1, March 2009.
