The Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development initiated the “Sustainable Building – Designing Future” symposium that was held on the 23rd of February 2012 in Berlin. In conjunction with the “Bautec 2012” trade fair, this one-day symposium took place at the Messe Berlin.
Published in Spring of 2011, The “Handbook of Sustainable Building” (“Leitfaden Nachhaltiges Bauen”) aimed at specifying the term “sustainability” by establishing measures and indicators in the building industry. The handbook introduces a crucial evaluation system entitled “Sustainable Building for Federal Buildings”. The aim of this symposium was to exchange ideas about its implementation. Furthermore, this event focused on presenting and recognizing know-how in transferring sustainable building practices into the housing industry.
In this light, the symposium was addressed towards the building industry, experts in technology, engineering, architecture and urban development as well as towards representatives of public administration, private building, or housing industry; and any interested (expert) public.
