With an overall of more than 1500 visitors the two BerliNordik “bright green design” exhibitions in 2010 were a big success. In the frame of the DMY International Design Festival Berlin held in June, the first exhibition at the International Design Center Berlin (IDZ) highlighted sustainable aspects and features of product design. Afterwards, during Berlin Fashion Week, which took place in July, the second exhibition at the atrium of Deutsche Bank focused primarily on Eco-Fashion. In these two exhibitions 19 brilliant fashion and product designers from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Berlin presented their work, showing a wide range of different approaches on the topic of sustainability. Furthermore, some of them were able to be present during the exhibitions. Their materialized ideas made it clear that there are many possible solutions for the design of the future. Yet, the journey has just begun.
BerliNordik – Forum for Sustainable Design – is an international platform that brings together young talented designers from Berlin with their colleagues from the Nordic countries on the subject of sustainable design. After a successful beginning with “bright green fashion”, carried out in cooperation with the city of Copenhagen in 2009, BerliNordik is held this year in Berlin hosting its Nordic partners.
The project partners CREATE BERLIN, the International Design Center Berlin (IDZ), INPOLIS UCE GmbH and the co-founder Fashion Patrons developed the visions and themes for BerliNordik, which include: a public discourse, a targeted promotion of young talents and a national and international exchange of knowledge. Research and experiences play a central role in the project.
